8th Annual basis.point Corporate Golf Challenge

Duff & Phelps

Socially distanced celebration for 2nd place finishers Duff and Phelps

It is often said that the early bird catches the worm and so it was to be on the occasion of the 8th basis.point Corporate Golf Challenge! In a year festooned with doom and gloom, it was smiles all round, as everyone welcomed the chance to see friendly faces and enjoy a day of sunshine whilst strictly adhering to Covid-19 social distancing guidelines.

Deloitte

Remote prizegiving as Declan O’Sullivan presents Brian Forrester of Deloitte with the AMX sponsored top prize.

First on the tee box, Deloitte hit the ground running and never looked back! The lowest combined team handicap on the day (32) and scoring a magnificent gross 12 under par, the team of Brian Forrester, Brian Jackson, Christian McManus and Jack Lee were worthy winners indeed.

Celebrating the launch of their new Management Company in Ireland, Duff and Phelps looked to bring some fun to the proceedings with the introduction of two Duff and Phelps Mulligans for each team!

They themselves took full advantage of them and looked like they could challenge for the title with 4 birdies in the first 5 holes. Finishing just one shot off the leaders, the team members, led by Alan Keating, were rewarded for their efforts with 2nd place and the Promoters Prize.

A story of what might have been, held Walkers back when they ran into trouble on the par 4, 11th hole. A costly bogey led to a 3rd place finish for Nick Blake Knox and his team.

And taking full advantage of anchor man Alan Gillespie, playing off a handicap of one, Innocap successfully navigated the course to take fourth position.

Early feedback indicates that the format of Texas Scramble was well received, allowing for greater participation across all golfing abilities. But the long sought after ‘three in a row’ was not to be for Caceis who struggled with the new format and finished somewhat off the pace.

This year we introduced a ladies team prize for the first time. Three all-female teams competed for this tightly contested honour, with Karen Conboy’s team coming out the eventual winners.

There is no doubt that the evening dinner, prizegiving and live auction with Sean Buckley at the helm, were sadly missed this year. Yet under the cloud of the Covid-19 pandemic, we feel fortunate to have been able to enjoy such a wonderful day.

Thank you sincerely to our event sponsors AMX for the prizes, Goodbody for the Goody Bags, The Panel for our pre -golf refreshments and Duff and Phelps for the Mulligans.

Thank you to the team at Milltown Golf Club for working tirelessly with us to ensure a safe environment for all, to our wonderful golf committee and to our volunteers on the day. This is one we will remember!
