The 10th Annual Corporate Challenge lived up to its billing as one of the industries networking events of the year! A special year in more ways than one, our tenth anniversary marked the return of full hospitality at Milltown Golf Club and the buzz and excitement of post golf celebrations.
This was the year that diversity came of age! It was the year that for the first time ever, a mixed team raised the Cathal Lavelle Trophy, and where most notably, lady golfers shone as brightly as men, with two ladies sporting the lowest handicaps of the day, Anna Abom (guest with Kroll) and Meadhbh Doyle (Grant Thornton) playing off 0.2 and 0.9 respectively.
A superb team effort led by Kevin Coghlan, ensured a convincing win by JP Morgan and guests, as they claimed the Cathal Lavelle Trophy.
Runners up Mason, Hayes & Curran narrowly held off defending champions McCann Fitzgerald, with EisnerAmper, who coincidentally had the lowest gross score of 61, coming in fourth, with an impressive 12 under par!
It was not all serious buisiness. Most teams opted to take a break and Pay the Driver on the 5th hole.
Thank you to Harry Fanagan (+2) and Kevin O’Donnell (1.5) intermediate members in Milltown Golf Club, for their consistency in driving.
The young guns came up trumps and not surprisingly the 5th was the most birded hole, with teams from William Fry, Eisner Amper, Abbey Capital and Pat Lardner, even managing to convert for eagles.
Nearest the Pin was sponsored by LEI Worldwide, a homegrown start up. A hole in one sealed the deal for Barings, with Neil St Lawrence hitting the shot of his life from the tee. Sadly no car for Neil, but the team were well rewarded with Nearest the Pin and champagne all around.
Team Kroll came dressed to make a splash and looked the full deal. And team member Anna Abom, young rising star of Irish golf, certainly is.
Her swing has all the style and accuracy of a Leona McGuire and playing off a handicap of 0.1, she certainly is one to watch.
We are delighted to have had the privilege of playing a tournament with her!
For many of us, the highlight was the entertainment and socialising off the course. It was a delight to be entertained by the wit and good humour of celebrity auctioneer Sean Buckley.
Thank you once again to our event sponsors for contributing to such an enjoyable day. Thank you to each of our 36 Tee Box Sponsors and to all who volunteered on the day. And thank you to Milltown Golf Club for kindly hosting us again in this our 10th year.
As a fine day closed out a wonderful summer, we salute you all and thank you for your ongoing support. As a result of your generosity, we raised just shy of €75,000 allowing us to continue to help those young people most in need of educational support.
And so we have it. A new name on the trophy, a special colleague and gentleman remembered, and the eager anticipation of battle again next year.
